Rehabilitation Services
Physical Therapy
Returning individuals to their optimal health is the goal of Suburban Community
Hospital physical therapists. This goal is achieved by providing individualized
treatment programs. Each patient receives a comprehensive evaluation by
a licensed therapist who then develops a treatment program that matches
the needs and goals of the individual.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapists at Suburban Community Hospital work with adults
experiencing a broad range of conditions such as stroke, arthritis, neurological
disorders or events, orthopedic injuries and surgeries, work related injuries,
fatigue and weakness due to illness, low vision and cognitive impairment.
The Occupational therapist completes a comprehensive evaluation, then,
in collaboration with the patient, designs and implements a customized
treatment program. The focus of treatment may be maximizing functions
in terms of arm and hand use, increasing independence in activities of
daily living, promoting improved participation in work and leisure activities,
and/or health promotion and prevention of future impairments.
Hand Therapy
Our certified Hand Therapists (Occupational and Physical Therapists) provide
specialized rehabilitation for patients with injuries and conditions related
to the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow. Conditions treated include fractures,
dislocations, tendon injuries, crush injuries, nerve conditions and repetitive
strain injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tendinitis.
Speech therapy
A Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is a specially trained professional
who helps people when they have difficulty communicating or swallowing.
SLPs take care of people across the lifespan. Communication and swallowing
problems may occur in childhood or adulthood. Treatment usually results
in significant improvement.
