Message from Program Director

Our program is a well-established surgical residency, based in a community teaching hospital setting. We are located in the suburban Philadelphia area and are associated with the OPTI at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The Suburban Community Hospital General Surgery Residency is a well-rounded training program that provides its graduates with the skills required to proceed into either Fellowship or surgical practice. The focus is on an understanding of all aspects of surgical care. There is an emphasis on developing clinical decision making skills. The resident is provided with an increasing level of responsibility throughout the years of the program and an overall care experience. They also benefit from a close interaction with the other residents and the attending surgeons.

The residents are exposed to a diverse amount of cases as well as pathology. In addition, to open and laparoscopic experience, the residents receive training in the use of the daVinci robot system. We have a structured didactic program, with core curriculum lectures, journal reviews, and supplemental educational resources. There is daily interaction with the attending surgeons and Suburban Community Hospital provides an excellent working and learning environment.

Our residents have proceeded into multiple Fellowships including plastics, minimally invasive, breast, colorectal and cardiothoracic.

Overall, this is a well-rounded residency with a comfortable learning environment and will provide its graduates with the skills required to succeed in the future.
